September Favorites and a fail!

I tried multiple times to film a video on my monthly favorites, and it just wasn't happening. The lighting was bad. My four year old kept interrupting, etc. So I am bringing you my September favorites the old fashioned way. You all don't mind, right?

Before I get started I want to say that I am still loving all of my monthy favorites from last month. So if you haven't checked out my August favorites, be sure to do so! I used all of those products over the course of September, too. So, the products I talk to you about today are really in addition to those.

 First, I will talk to you all about my favorite face products for the month of September. I have quite a few new products to rave about!

I have talked about the Elf mineral infused face primer before in my monthly favorites, but I wanted to talk about it again because it really is an amazing product. It's a silky clear gel that you apply before putting on your foundation. I love it because it makes my foundation glide on easily. It helps to even out my skin and it really helps to make my foundation last. I can't say enough good things about this product. The only thing that I don't like about this product is that the pump gets clogged. My pump quit working about a month after I had the product, so now I am forced to open the bottle to get the product out, which is not the most sanitary thing in the world. But, I am willing to overlook that because the product is so good. It's one of Elf's most expensive products. This will cost you $6.00 full price. But that's still an amazing price for this product, and there are always half off coupon codes for Eyeslipsface.com.

Next up is the Elf tone correcting concealer. You all just saw this in my most recent Elf haul. I didn't purchase this until the second half of the month, but I am putting it in here because I have used this concealer everyday since I bought it. It's a great concealer. I like to use it under my eyes. It blends so easily and smoothly, so it is not necessary for me to pull and tug at that sensitive area to get the concealer to get it blended. The color is the perfect shade for my skin tone. I got mine in light beige. I also love the smell of this product. It's got Elf's sugar orange smell to it, and I really enjoy that scent. I know it seems funny to talk about how good a concealer smells, but there ya go. haha. The best part about this product is the price. Just a dollar!

Another product that I got in my most recent Elf haul that I have been loving in the Elf maximum coverage concealer. I really like this concealer for spots and blemishes. It reminds me a lot of the Hard Candy glamoflauge concealer, except that I like this one better because it blends easier and doesn't cake up like the Hard Candy one can do. This concealer is new to Elf and it's one of the best face products I have used by the company. I highly recommend it! It's available from their studio line and cost just 3 dollars.

Lastly, I want to talk about the foundation that I have been loving this month. I also featured this in my last haul. Apparently I made good choices during my last shopping trip. This is the NYC smooth skin liquid makeup. I purchased the shade barely beige, which I worried would be too dark for me, but it's the perfect color for my skin. I talked about this foundation in my "i'm sick" makeup video and also featured it in my getting ready with me video. I love this foundation. It's very easy to blend, gives medium coverage and really lasts on me, especially when used in conjunction with the elf mineral infused face primer. I have heard this foundation compared to the infamous Revlon Color Sta. I haven't used that one, and I don't think I will ever need to buy it, because this is a quarter of the price (I got mine on sale for less than 2 dollars!) and works fantastic for me. My only negative is that this foundation does not come with a pump, and is very difficult to get out of the bottle. Other than that I give this foundation 5 stars!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next, let's talk about my favorite eye products of the month. I have recently been reaching a lot for my Urban Decay Rollergirl palette. This is an eyeshadow palette that contains four eyeshadows. 3 neutrals and one bright pink. I have been reaching for this because it's got great neutrals that I use practically everyday and it's small enough to just throw in my bag for touch ups. This palette contains Urban Decay eyeshadows in Woodstock, Verve, suspect and darkhorse. Most days this month I have been using suspect all over my lid, verve as a brow bone and inner corner highlight, and darkhorse in my crease. It makes for a super simple, but super pretty look.

And I want to give some love to the Elf essential line of brushes. The face brushes from that line are crap. The studio face brushes are far superior. But, the essential eye brushes are amazing! I feel like I haven't talked about them enough on this blog. I really like the eye brushes and I use them practically everyday. They are all very soft brushes that do not shed. I love that I can get all the eye brushes I need from Elf and still spend less than what it would cost to buy just one eye brush from coastal scents or sigma. I highly reccomend that you try out all the the essential line of eye brushes from Elf!

 

I have been loving trying out lots of different lipsticks this month. I've got three favorites to share with you today.

First is the NYC Ultra moist lipwear in violet shine. I got this lipstick at the same time I picked up the NYC foundation I talked about above. All of the NYC products were 40 percent off, so I got this lipstick for just 59 cents! And what a steal that was because I have been getting a ton of wear out of this lipstick. Like the name implies it is a very moisturizing lipstick. The color is a purpl-y pink, with a nice shine. This lipstick does not have any taste and has a bit of that plastic cheap makeup smell, but it doesn't linger. I am not crazy about the packaging. The bullet does not go all the way down, so when you put the lid on you risk nicking the lipstick (which I have done a couple of times) but overall I really adore this lip color!

Another lipstick I have worn a lot this month is the Elf lipstick in Voo Doo. This is one of their essential lipsticks that costs just a dollar and this is one of my all time favorite lipsticks. It's a brick red shade with some brown in it so it makes it very wearable for me. I love this color and always break it out in the early days of fall, because I find it to be the perfect transition color to take me from summer into fall and winter.

The last lipstick is another one I got in my most recent Elf haul and it's the mineral lipstick in Party Pink. This lipstick will cost you 5 dollars, and it's worth every penny. This lipstick glides on so smooth and is incredibly moisturizing. The packaging for this lipstick is a a nice black square tube. It's really nice packaging, and holds up a lot better than their essential lipsticks. the color is a beautiful mid toned pink, that I think would be flattering on every skin tone. The color doesn't exactly scream Fall to me, but I still have been wearing it a ton because it's just a great quality lipstick. I really want to try more of the mineral line of lipsticks from Elf.

One random non beauty favorite that I want to talk about is a candle. I recently picked up a fall scented candle from walmart and I have been burning it like crazy since I purchased it. It's the Better Homes and Gardens limited edition Candle in Spiced Pumpkin Pie. I LOVE the smell of this. It's the epitome of fall in a candle if you ask me. I thought I would include it just in case anyone wanted to pick it up before it's no longer available for purchase! Plus, I like to throw in non-beauty related favorites sometimes just to mix it up a bit!

That's it for my favorites for the month of September, but I do want to tell you all about a product that did not work for me. It's the Elf eyebrow treat and tame. I picked this up in my last Elf haul because, as you all know if you have been reading my blog for a while, I really hate my eyebrows. They are sparse and light and wiry and I have a really hard time getting them to look right. I am lazy about filling them in, too, which makes it worse. So I thought that this product would be great for me. It's a brown gel that comes in a tube and is applied with a mascara type wand. It also has a clear gel on the other end that is supposed to help treat your eyebrows and help to grow them in. I thought that part would be perfect for my sparse brows!

Well, the tame side, the side with the brown gel, is just a mess to apply. The wand makes it impossible to apply the product neatly. It goes all over the place. And the gel smells terrible. It's got this burnt plastic smell that I cannot tolerate. The color of the gel is nice, and matches my eyebrows okay (I bought it in the shade dark) but, even that doesn't save this product because the gel flakes off after just a couple of hours of wear.  It also seems like this product has some false fibers in it, which I find incredibly weird, and they don't work anyway. This part of the product was a complete bust for me.

I don't know if the treat side works. I have only been using it a couple of weeks, and have not noticed any difference at all. I will continue to use the treat side of the product, and let you all know if I see any results. Maybe I will, and that will save this product from being a complete waste of money. WE shall see.

NOTD+Sally Hansen Salon effects Review

A while back while I was in a discount store I picked up a box of the Sally Hansen Salon effects real nail polish strips. I finally got around to applying them today, and I thought I would share with you my experience with them, and show you the finished product.

I bought the nail polish strips in the color How Romantic! These are a mosaic design with different shades of pink. I think I remember these particular ones coming out around Valentine's Day. The design isn't exactly fall appropriate, which is probably why I scored these for 2 dollars. Still, I like the look of them, and wanted to try them out.

The box comes with two separate foil packets that each contain 8 nail polish strips. Before I even began this manicure I decided that I was going to use the nail polish strips as accent nails, that way I could get two manicures out of one box of strips. (I ended up using 6 of the 8 strips, and I used NYC nail polish in Fuchsia shock on the other nails- it matches these strips perfectly!)Plus, I figured if I messed it up too badly, I would get another shot at it. The package also includes a wooden stick for pushing back your cuticles and a little file that is used to shape your nails and remove the excess nail polish strip when you are putting them on.


The packaging tells you to make sure that you have clean nails and then to pick the polish strip that will best fit your nail. Ok, so far so good I had no problems with this step. I was able to find polish strips that would work for each of the nails I wanted to use them on. Then it tells you to peel off the clear protective plastic cover. Again, no problems. Then it tells you to peel the nail polish strip from the backing paper. Here's where I encountered my first issue.

Some of the strips came right off the paper backing no trouble at all. Others were stuck tight to it. I don't know if it's because this is an older design, or because I didn't use it right away after I bought it, but I really struggled to get the paper backing off some of the strips. Because of that, the pattern on some of the strips got a bit distorted. It wasn't too bad, but it was the first hiccup I had with applying these.

After you have the nail polish strip off the backing it tells you to break the silver tab off the strip. Here's where I had problem number two. When I did that to the very first one I managed to rip the nail polish strip right in half. Luckily it ripped in a place that I was still able to use it, but still. I was much more careful after that.

Then, it tells you to place strip against the cuticle line, hold strip at center and press the nail strip to the nail, gently stretching the strip to fit. Well, once again I had issues. I had a hard time getting the pattern straight on my nails, and when I stretched the strip to fit, it again distorted the pattern. So with the other strips, to avoid distorting the pattern, I didn't stretch the strip, which then led to bare spots on my nails.

Overall, as you can probably tell, I had a hard time putting these things on. I think it's just because it was my first time, but still. Had I paid full price for these I have seen them in the stores for anywhere between 8 and 10 dollars) I would have been tremendously upset at the results of this manicure. Because I only paid two dollars, I am not too heart broken. For my first experience with these nail strips, I have to say I am not impressed. I still have 6 strips left to try, and I will give those a shot providing that the strips I have on now last. I have a feeling that the first time I stick my hands in dishwater these will peel right off.

So, while I love the idea behind these, I doubt very much if I will be purchasing these again. For the price, these just simply aren't easy enough to work with. Perhaps others would enjoy these and not have the same issues with application that I did, but for me, it's just not worth the trouble. Unless I see a design I absolutely cannot pass up, I will be skipping these from now on!

E.L.F. Villainous Villains: Cruella Day and Night!

Some of you said you were interested in seeing looks from the E.L.F. Villainous Villain collection and I was happy to oblige. First up is the Cruella Everyday Eyes book. I followed the instructions in the book to create both a day eye and a night eye. I used only the eyeshadows from the book. I did not sure the lip and cheek colors, because I wanted to out my own spin on the looks. I didn't use the eyelid primer from the book, because I already have an Elf eyelid primer open, and I used that. I also didn't use the liquid eyeliner from the book, because again, I already have a black Elf liquid eyeliner open. So let me show you the looks and then I will tell you a bit about them.

The instructions for the day look called for the eyes to be lined in liquid eyeliner. I find liquid eyeliner to be pretty harsh for daytime, so I switched it up and used cream eyeliner, which gives the same basic effect only it's a lot easier to control and a bit softer of a look. I used the NYC Instant Lash mascara for some length! I used the Elf HD blush in headliner to add a nice peachy flush to my cheeks. And I finished it off with the NYC lipstick in Violet Shine and a bit of Elf super glossy lip shine in Cherry.

The night look called for liquid eyeliner and this time I did just that. I struggle with liquid eyeliner and making it look neat and even, but I did my best! I used two coats of Maybelline the Falsies mascara for that extra drama. One again, I chose to use lip and cheek coilors from my collection rather than the book. I used the Elf Studio powder blush in Peachy Keen on my cheeks, and I did some light overall bronzing with NYC sunny bronzer. On my lips I am wearing Elf Mineral Lipstick in Party Pink with Elf super glossy lip shine in Pink Pop on top.

So that's that. Overall I really like the looks that I was able to create following the directions from the books. The day look in a natural look with a subtle sage green wash of color. The Night look is a smokier neutral eye. I really enjoy the texture of these eyeshadows. I was able to blend everything very easily, and the looks each came together quite quickly. I can't wait to try the other books and see what the results will be!

Drugstore and Online Haul

I told you in my post (which was also a haul) that I had a drugstore haul for you coming up! Well here it is! I went to Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart and I also ordered from eyelipsface.com I didn't get a ton of stuff from any of the locations, so thjis should be relatively quick! Here we go!

First, I will share with you what I got in the mail today from eyelipsface.com You all know my love affair with Elf cosmetics! So as soon as they released the Elf HD blushes I HAD to place an order. Here's what I got.






I got the NEW Maximum Coverage concealer- oil free in the shade Sand. The NEW HD blushes in the colors Headliner and Superstar. The mineral lipstick in Party Pink, The tone correcting concealer in light beige and the essential lipsticks in Seductive and Charming. I also got the Matte Lip color in Rich Red, the Eyebrow treat and Tame in Dark and 5 of the pressed mineral eyeshadows in Disco DJ, Lunch Break, What's your name?, Wine Tour and Out all night.

I also ordered the nail polish in Copper, but in my excitement about the HD blushes I forgot to photograph that with the rest of the items!


I lumped all the purchases from the other stores into one photo beause I only got a couple things from each store.



From Rite Aid I got the NYC Smooth Skin Liquid makeup in the shade Nude. I had this foundation from NYC before and it was just ok, but I have heard a lot of good things about it lately. So, I figured I would give it another try! I also got the Ultra moist lipwear in the colors Petal and Violet Shine. All of the NYC products at Rite Aid were 40% off. So I got the foundation for $1.79 and the lipsticks for 59 cents each! Can't beat that! NYC products are super inexpensive to begin with. so you combine that with the 40% off and it's a steal. I will probably try to go back soon and pick up some more of the lipsticks. I love them!

I went to three or four different walgreens this past weekend looking for the limited edition Elf palettes with the disney villains on them. No luck. So while my husband was at work today, he went into yet another walgreens looking for me. He didn't find it either, but he did find this set of 5 of Elf's Super Glossy Lip shines! The colors that come in the set are pink pop, Guava, Flirt, Houston and Cherry.

Lastly, while I was in walmart today picking up a few groceries, I saw this EOS lip blam in sweet mint. Since I love my lemon drop one, I decided to pick it up!

Recently one of my favorite beauty bloggers NYCmakeuplover1 (you should check out her blog, it's great!) did a post where she looked at her everyday makeup and then calculated how much it costs. Basically, you see what your face is worth. I thought it looked like fun, so I went ahead and did it for my face today!

It's actually more than I thought. I used a ton of very affordable products. All of the Elf products are 3 dollars or less. The wet n wild trio of eyeshadows was very affordable. I guess even the most affordable of products add up. Keep in mind, these prices are what it would cost o purchase all of these products for full price. I didn't necessarily pay full price for each of these items. So, my total might be less, or more, depending on the deals I got, the shipping I paid, etc. So, to be fair, I just looked up the prices online and went with the price each item was listed as, sometimes rounding up or down to get an even price.

Fall Nail polish Picks!

It seems like I just did my spring nail polish picks. And here we are, heading in to fall. I originally planned to do this sort of post for each of the seasons, but I found that I wore the same polishes in summer that I did in spring so it wasn't necessary to make a separate post for Summer. Now, I am bringing you my fall nail polish picks. I pulled these polishes out of my personal nail polish collection. Though, at the end I will share with you a few polishes that are on my wish list for fall.

1. New York Color Plaza Plumberry- I currently have this on my nails and I just love it. The color is a deep wine. A sort of dark purple with red undertones. It's sort of the color of a black berry. It's the perfect vampy shade for fall in my opinion. It's dark enough that it appears black in some light, without the harshness that black nail polish has. The formula is great. It's opaque in two coats, and it only costs 99 cents!

2. New York Color Broadway Burgundy- I really love NYC nail polish. This one is a lovely burgundy color. Burgundy, maroon, raspberry. These are some of my favorite fall colors. And this polish is a dream to work with. It's opaque in one coat. It has a really nice frosty finish. I can't say enough good things about it.

3. Sinful Colors Nirvana- This is one of my favorite nail polishes of all time, not just in the fall, but all year round. It's sort of a taupe-y mushroom color that looks amazing with my skin tone. It's a cream finish, and opaque in two coats. This is another budget polish, at just $1.99

4. Sinful Colors Savage- This is not the dark polish one expects to see in a fall nail polish post. But I just love it. Savage is a teal polish that leans more blue than green, with a matte finish. It's a really pretty color. The only thing I will say about this one is you NEED a base coat because this one stained my nails badly when I used it without. Of course, you should ALWAYS use a base coat anyway, so bad me! Still, this color is to die for. you need this in your collection!

5. Shades of the Season iridescent Glitter polish- Around the holidays last year, I was in CVS with my husband when they were having one of their famous 75% off sales. I came across this set of 10 different glitter polishes for 10 dollars, and this is one of the polishes from the set. It's a gorgeous iridescent glitter top coat. I love layering on top of just about anything because the glitter is just beautiful. This is an unexpected treasure in a really cheap set. I highly suggest you don't turn up your nose to little holiday sets like these. you might just find a treasure like I did!

6. Elf Metal Madness- This is one of my favorite elf polishes. Unfortunately I didn't buy the full size, so it's just a mini. But I definitely have it on my to buy list in full size once this one is gone. It's a beautiful gunmetal grey with tons of sparkle in it. It's a great polish. It's a pain to apply, because it's got a thicker consistency, but it's so pretty on the nail that I overlook the application issues. Especially since this is another bargain polish. The full size runs you a whopping 2 dollars on eyeslipsface.com Plus, this polish lasts a good 10 days easily on my nails. I love it!

7. Elf Fairy dust- I just got this polish, I have it on my nails now over top of the the NYC Plaza Plumberry and it's gorgeous. It's the only flakie nail polish in my collection, and I just adore the way it looks. The smell is strong and awful, but it's worth it to get that beautiful flakie finish on my nails. I definitely intend to invest in more flakie polishes, but until then, I love this one!

8.Elf Chocolate- this is simply chocolate for your nails. The application is smooth. The color is pretty. This is another nail polish that will stain your nails terribly if you don't use a base coat. But it's a great color. Chocolate brown looks great on my skin tone, and I have a feeling I am going to be reaching for this polish quite often this fall. I love browns!

9. Elf party peach- this is another bright one, but I love orange in the fall. Of course. Fall is all about pumpkins and fall leaves. Orange is like the official color of fall along with brown, right? I especially love this one. It's bright, and beautiful, and applies like a dream. It's got teeny tiny gold shimmers in it that make it look just stunning on the nails. And this is another one that lasts forever on my nails. Elf has really amazing nail polishes.

10. China Glaze Holly-Day- This polish came out with the holiday collections last year. It's a deep pine tree green, and It's a color that I really enjoy wearing in the fall months. Of course, it's a great holiday color as well, but I like wearing it all throughout the fall and winter seasons. It's a nice color against my skin tone. It's a 2 coat polish for me, and has a great cream finish. I really need to invest in more China Glaze polishes. They are a bit more expense than the drugstore brands I tend to gravitate to, but the color selection is amazing!

11. Wet n Wild wild shine in Blue Moon- this is such a pretty deep blue. It's applies easily and is opaque in one coat. I really like this color! It's another one of those easy go to fall colors, and one I know I will find myself using quite often.

12. Wet n Wild Dast Dry Party of Five Glitters- I tend to rock glitter nail polish a lot more in the fall and winter than I do in the spring and summer. I think because it's just such a pain to\ apply nicely. And then an even bigger pain to get off. But in the fall and winter, I don't seem to mind as much. Maybe because I am indoors more, and not always rushing out to be in the sunshine. Anyway, this is a big chunky glitter top coat. It's got large chunks of silver, Red, Green, blue and turquoise glitter in a clear base. It's a pain to work with and get the glitter distributed evenly, but it makes for an awesome accent nail. I like it a lot.

13. Wet n Wild Fast Dry Gray's Anatomy- This is another one that is a pain to work with. It's not great on it's own, unless you want to pile on about 8 coats, but it's a gorgeous polish to layer on top of other polishes. Especially black. Anyway, this is a gray-purple polish with a green duo chrome. It's quite unique, and gorgeous on the nails. It's supposedly a dupe for the much more expensive Deborah Lippman's Wicked Game, which I couldn't tell you because I don't have that one. Regardless, it's a great polish to have, and worth working with to make it look good!

14. Revlon Gold Coin- I wore this polish a ton in the spring and summer, and I am going to keep right on wearing it into fall. I love this color. It's a gorgeous Gold metallic nail polish. One of my favorite nail polishes of all time. It can be opaque in one coat, but I usually do 2. It lasts a good long time. and it's gorgeous with my skin tone. I highly recommend this nail polish!

15. Revlon Scandalous- I searched long and hard to buy this nail polish last winter, and I was rewarded greatly. They originally released this as Facets of Fuchsia, and I missed out on buying it at that point, despite going to multiple stores in search of it. So when they re-released it under a new name, I had to have it. I really love this nail polish! It's a dupe for Deborah Lippman's Bad Romance. The polish is identical to that one at a fraction of the cost. It's large hexagonal purple glitter in a black jelly base. And it's absolutely beautiful, especially when layered over top of a black polish. It gives this nail polish amazing depth. I wore this for about 3 weeks straight when I first bought it, and I will be wearing it a ton more this season!

So that wraps up my polish picks for fall, but I do want to share with you a few of the nail polishes that are on my wish list this season.

1. OPI Brisbane Bronze- This nail polish has been out for a while, but I recently saw it on youtube user Chelsea Wears, and I fell in love with it. I MUST purchase it, and soon!

2. Nicole by OPI's Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam- I Hate the Kardashians, I hate this nail polish's name, and I hate the price point, but I need this dark teal polish in my collection!

3. Revlon Midnight affair- This is a beautiful deep dark Navy. I have dark blues in my ollection but nothing quite like this!

4. New York Color Manhattan- I love vampy colors in the fall, and this is a vampy red that I am dying to add to my collection. It's one of their quick dry polishes, and runs about 2 dollars I don't know why I haven't snapped this one up yet

5. magnetic nail polish- I don't have a specific brand or color in mind. I just really want to add some sort of magnetic polish to my collection. These look so awesome!

Falling for Fall: Face/outfit/nail of the day

Just last week I was going on about how summer isn't over and how I am not ready for fall. then I woke up this morning walked outside and it was 55 degrees. A preview of Autumn, certainly! I had forgotten how much I love fall. It's my favorite season. And while I think this year is going by plenty fast without wishing for fall to arrive sooner, I do adore the cooler weather we are having today. And, I love being able to pull out some warmer clothes and rock a more fall-toned makeup look!
